Fred Hill


of Tucson, Arizona, died Friday, November 19, 1999. Preceded in death by father, Alfred Victor Hill. Survived by mother, Ruby Rasmussen Hill; wife, Marie Featherstone Hill; children, Sidney (Douglas) Rigby of Tucson; Suzanne (Bradley) Risk of Ruckersville, Virginia; Douglas (Charlene) Hill of Gilbert, Arizona; James H. Hill of Tucson; Roger (Kimberly) Hill of Tucson; and Michael Z. Hill of Tucson. Also 16 grandchildren: Thomas, Catherine, and Richard Rigby; Victoria, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Paul, and William Risk; Blake, Eryn, Jordan, Keaton, and Quentin Hill; and Alexander, Aubrey and Ryan Hill. Fred was born in Clark County, Nevada. He greatly loved the town of Boulder City, Nevada where he grew up and graduated from Boulder City High School. He continued his education at the University of Utah where he earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering. Fred was a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona for 35 years where he served on various committees, his favorite being the UofA Sports Committee. With Prof. Gerald Peterson, he co-authored three successful textbooks on digital and logical systems. In the 1970′s he served on an international committee focused on standardizing computer hardware language. He has traveled and lectured in several counties around the world including Saudi Arabia, Iran and China. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-DaySaints last serving as High Priest Group Leader in the Wildwood Park Ward. He served on the Marana Unified School District Board for several terms between 1972 and 1988. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. A devoted member of the Wildcat Club he was a great fan of UofA basketball. As a volunteer, he coached youth basketball for several organizations including the YMCA and Mountain View HS. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Avenue (Magee) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23rd, 1999. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-DaySaints, Tucson West Stake Center, 3530 W. Magee Road on Wednesday, November 24, 1999 at 3:00 p.m., Bishop Ron Jeffries officiating. Viewing will be in the Relief Society Room from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at the LDS cemetery on Alvernon Way, North of River Rd.
